About Digby Farm

Digby farm is a family run business of 60 hectares, of which 20 hectares are dedicated to growing Christmas trees.

The plantation is run by John and Helen Ellis with their family joining in with the work at various times of the year. Our first transplants were planted during the spring of 1986 since then we have been planting 10,000 to 12,000 trees a year. In 1991 we took part in a Blue Peter appeal and sold our first trees for retail. The following year we opened our gates fully and the Digby Farm Christmas Shop was born with a simple shed in a barn.

Being a dry part of the country with an annual rain fall of approximately 55cm the conditions are best suited to growing Norway spruce (the traditional Christmas tree) and Scots pine, we do however grow other varieties particularly for our retail sales.

On the wholesale side of our business we supply garden centres, nurseries, in fact anyone who wishes to retail Christmas trees. Some of our larger trees go to City and Town centres and Shopping Centres as part of their festive attractions - we can supply trees up to 12 metres tall.

Our retail sales are open from the last weekend of November up until Christmas Eve, though trees can be purchased prior to this by arrangement. Opening times are 10.00am - 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10.00am - 4.00pm on Sundays. We do our best to ensure that our trees are fresh by lifting new trees each day.
